The Medela DoubleEase and the Medela Double Select are essentailly the same breast pump. In addition to the actual pump, the DoubleEase Breast Pump included a manual pump and a carry bag. The DoubleEase has now been discontinued by Medela and is no longer available from them, but has been replaced by the Double Select. The Double Select pump is less expensive but it does not include those additional items -- the carry bag and the manual pump. The carry bag is still available for purchase as a separate item, but will be discontinued when Medela's supplies run out. The piston and cylinder unit that converts the pump for manual use will remain available for sale for the forseeable future. The Medela Double Select (or DoubleEase) Breast Pump is the ideal double pump for those occasional times when you are separated from your baby. The Double Select is fully automatic and has an autocycling action which simulates the baby's natural nursing pattern. Mom can choose to pump one breast, or save time by pumping both breasts at the same time. The vacuum can be adjusted while pumping, to allow maximum comfort for mom.

In order to use an electrical outlet to power your pump you will need a Medela transformer. If your breast pump suddenly stops working, it may be that you need to replace your transformer.

The white DoubleEase (Double Select) transformer pictured is for use in the United States of America but we also carry transformers for use in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia. If you will be travelling to any of these places, you may want to purchase one of these. They are also $20.00 each. To order one, make your choice from the drop down option menu below.

New for 2009 - Bottles and Bottle Sets with WIDE BASE nipples

Medela bottles are BPA free

As of March 2009 all new Medela products that include bottle nipples will contain the new wide base nipple. This nipple is softer than previous nipples and the shape better mimics the nursing experience for baby. This nipple will work with all Medela bottles, old and new styles. However, because of the wider base on the new nipple it must be used with the new collar for wide based nipple, and the new cap for wide based nipple. Over the next few months Medela will gradually phase out all the 2008 nipples currently available in bottle sets and replace them with the new wide based nipple.
What about the collection bottles and solid lids? They have not changed. Medela bottles and lids from older bottle sets and pumps will work with the new wide base nipples, wide base collars, wide base discs, and wide base caps. Medela bottles and solid lids provided with the 2009 sets are indentical to those in the 2008 sets.

Medela Bottle Sets and Bottle Parts with 2008 nipples

Each collection bottle provided in the Pump In Style breastpump consists of a bottle and solid lid. Instead of a solid lid, a bottle collar and nipple can be used, so you can feed the baby direct from the bottle. A bottle cap will cover the nipple unit for storage. In addition a bottle disc is available. This seals the bottle when a bottle collar is being used, and the nipple is removed.
The 2008 Medela bottle parts shown - nipple, collar, disc, and cap are interchangeable with one another, and with older bottle parts, but are NOT interchangeable with the new 2009 wide base nipple, wide base collar, wide base disc, and wide base cap shown above. However, all Medela bottles and solid bottle lids are interchangeable and have a universal thread. The bottles and lids provided with the 2008 and 2009 sets are exactly the same.
