Therashells are an updated version of the Hobbit shells. Like the Hobbits, they are worn in the bra to help treat sore, flat, or inverted nipples. They are also helpful for engorgement, and help keep nipples dry. These shells can be sterilized. The difference between the Hobbits and the Therashells is that the Hobbits have air vents covering the front surface of the shell whereas the Thereshells have air vents on the upper surface only (in order to reduce leakage). Contact nipple shields are also for latch on difficulties. However, the Contact Nipple Shield has a unique cut-out at the base of the shield, to provide more skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby. These thin silicone shields are worn only when breastfeeding the baby, and must not be worn between feedings. They should only be used when recommended to you by a professional.
